Waiting List

To adopt a kitten, you need to enter the Waiting List.  Email or call me, Mary Burkwit, at 585-671-6496 to inform me that you are serious about adopting a kitten.  After we exchange information, you are welcome to send a non-refundable deposit of $150 to secure your kitten.  The remaining cost is due 10 days before your kitten leaves my home.  Money orders and bank checks are accepted as payment.  I do not accept personal checks.

You will receive a Birth Announcement when the kittens are born.  Sometimes, kittens are available sooner.  Keep in mind that these kittens are unique in their training so I only raise 2 to 3 litters per year.  Himalayan kittens are born pure white.  As they grow, their points grow in either Cream or Red.  As pointed kittens, it is impossible to determine whether a kitten is a Flame Point (Red) or Cream Point (Red Dilute) until closer to two months old.  You can see this by looking at the Photos page and noting the ages of the kittens in the script above their pictures.

    Kitten Delivery

Delivery is NOT included in the price of the kitten.  You are welcome to pick up your kitten from my home in Rochester, NY 14618.  I am willing to make road trip arrangements as described below.

Airline Delivery: Carry On

You are welcome to fly to Rochester, NY (airport code ROC) to pick up your kitten.  I will gladly pick you up from the airport and bring you to my home.  When making reservations, ask if the airline allows you to bring your kitten into the cabin as "carry on".  Some airlines charge $50 to $100 but some don't charge any extra at all.  Your kitten will also need a Vet approved Health Certificate dated within 10 days of flight which costs $35.  Depending on age and destination, a rabies vaccine may also be necessary for $20.  You can return with your kitten as "carry on" in a small size carrier crate which you can put under your seat.  This is a wonderful way to travel because you can be with your kitten during layovers.

Airline Delivery: Special Cargo

Your kitten can be flown to your airport from Rochester, NY (airport code ROC).  Most airlines are wonderful handling kittens.  Kittens are hand carried and never put on conveyor belts.  Most airlines have a designated area where you can pick up your kitten apart from the busy areas of the baggage claim area.  Kittens travel as "Special Cargo" which means that they travel in a separate cabin that is pressurized.  Animals are NEVER placed with luggage.  Kittens are hand carried to make transfers.   I research routes to ensure that your kittens make rapid transfers with minimal delays.  Kittens are also packed up by me with items that bring them the most comfort, usually their training bells and a blanket used by them with their mother.

The approximate total cost by airline is $248 for one kitten or $302 for 2 kittens.   Most airlines charge $170 for the airfare of one kitten.  Most airlines do not charge extra if two littermates are traveling together in the same crate.  Airlines require each kitten to have a Vet Health Certificate that is dated within 10 days of the flight which is $35 each.  Insurance from the airline is approximately $9 per kitten.  An extra deep water dish ensuring water will not spill out is $9.  An airline approved crate for one kitten is $25 or $35 for two kittens.

If it is necessary that I deliver you kitten to the Airport in Buffalo or Toronto, an extra delivery fee will be charged.  Canadian and other International deliveries must be discussed.

Road Trip Delivery:  Your kitten can be delivered to your home or we can establish a meeting point for a fee.  Each delivery quote is specific to that client.  As a guideline, delivery prices start at $65 per hour of driving (one way) away from Rochester, NY 14618.  If the distance requires that I stay overnight or travel with a friend, that enters into the equation.  These are approximations.  Delivery costs can be more than the guidelines above.

At a delivery point, you must have a crate, collar and first aid kit as described below.

Cat Car Care:

  • Every cat must have a crate when traveling by car.  You can hold your kitty AFTER all doors are closed and windows are shut.

  • Every cat must travel with a collar that identifies their destination and person to contact.  Statistically, the main reason that cats are never seen by their owners again is because it escaped from travel and attempted to return to their previous home.

  • Monitor your cat for Heat Stroke.  If your cat is lethargic and not alert, panting and weak, something is wrong.  Other HEAT STROKE SYMPTOMS include:  dark gums, a glazed expression, rapid heart beat, panting, clammy paw pad, drooling, diarrhea and/or lack of urine production and/or vomiting. Kitty may seem weak, collapse or have a seizure.  Stop the car.  Pour water on the head of the kitten.  Do not use ice water!  Continue until kitten's head and neck are drenched.  Soak a cloth in the water and wrap on the kitten's head.  Continue until the kitten is alert.  If possible, blow dry the kitten with a hair dryer set on "air only" to increase cooling by evaporation.  A kitten who struggles or cries is always a good sign!  Keep kitten calm and don't encourage it to play.  Follow up with a visit to your vet.

  • Prepare a first aid kit for kitty and take instructions with you for emergency care.
